The south central region of Arizona, where the lush Santa Cruz River Valley ranges from Tucson to Mexico, is the home of Arizona's original settlement, Tubac. Tubac has been continuously occupied by Europeans since 1752, when Spanish colonizers established a Presidio, now remembered at Arizona's first state part, the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park. 

Situated on the high chaparral at 3,200 feet, Tubac enjoys one of the most benign and comfortable climates in the U.S.  Mild winters and summers generally cooler than Phoenix or Tucson supports large stands of cottonwood, mesquite, and acacia trees.

Tubac today has been called the Sedona of Southern Arizona and is internationally known as Arizona's only true artist colony.  With 90 galleries and studios,  & only 40 miles south of Tucson, Tubac is home to sculptors, painters, potters, artisans and jewelers.  The center of Tubac's cultural life is the Tubac Center of the Arts, which offers a robust schedule of envents that include exhibitions, performing arts and art education and classes for children.

Tubac is the perfect place to shop, dine, explore, and then curl up in the handmade beds at the Tubac Country Inn.  It is also the gateway to the rest of Santa Cruz County and a week's worth of adventure discovering the Anza Trail, Tumacacori Mission, mountain biking, birding in the cottonwood bosques, golf, horseback riding, and nearby destinations like Nogales, Patagonia, Kartchner Caverns and the remarkable ghost town at Ruby.
